Born with SCID syndrome and disorders on the autistic spectrum, Boyen faces both physical and mental challenges.

His disabilities make it hard for him to truly connect with other people on a deeper personal level—though he does, very subtly, with time and trust.

Over the years, I’ve come to know him as a funny young man who is very firm in his beliefs, has a mind of his own, and isn’t afraid to speak out (he can be a stubborn lad). He’s also a man on a mission: protecting the environment, recycling, upcycling, and avoiding unnecessary waste is what he does all day.

Above all, he’s incredibly sweet and endearing—someone I’ve grown very, very fond of.
